SPECIAL GUEST LECTURE BY H.E. AMBASSADOR OF SPAIN IN REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MR. FERNANDO DE GALAINENA

    Sea, Sun and Entertainment" a slogan for tourism promotion of Spain
    Regarding vision to connect the theory and practice, University of Tourism and Management Skopje, within the already established practice of participation of well known lecturers, had the opportunity to host the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain in the Republic of Macedonia, H.E. Mr. Fernando de Galainena, accompanied with his team Mrs. Esther Martin, Deputy Ambassador and Mr. Angel Kiroga, expert in tourism. The students and the academic stuff at the University had the honor to enjoy into the Spanish tourism opportunities during this event. Opening remarks on behalf of the Chancellor of the University, held Prof. Dr. Zoran Ivanovski, Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation. In his speech he stressed the importance of this visit, especially for the students, as an opportunity to enjoy into the Spanish culture during this event and to get a picture of Spain, as one of the best tourist destinations in the world.

    Starting with the positioning of his country on the world tourist map, H.E. Mr. De Galainena in his presentation of Spain pointed the top ten tourist destinations, such as Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands. He stressed that the success of the tourism is determinate by the good infrastructure, such as good highways, which is important factor for the tourism development and the increasing number of tourists. The lecture was substantiated with video presentation from the major tourist destinations and attractions in Spain, starting with Madrid city tourism and ending up with the Basque area.

    The deputy Ambassador Mrs. Esther Martin presented data regarding the process of establishing the Ministry of Information and Tourism, as well as the Spanish tourism policy, the budget, marketing promotion, including the price policy of tourism services. Mrs. Martin, stressed that the tourism fairs in Madrid and Barcelona are particular interest for further development of tourism in Spain. Mr. Angel Kiroga, as an expert in the field of tourism explained the idea of the promotion slogan "Sea, sun and fun" and the new approaches of promotional activities, events and festivals within the tourism campaign in Spain.

    In his speech Mr. Kiroga, presented data regarding the tourism in Spain, cultural points, such as the Museo National del Prado visited by 2.8 million tourists and Museo de Reina Sofia visited by 2.6 million. In addition, as other important activities for tourism development, he stressed the cultural events, sports, cruising etc. As particularly important tourist destinations for Spain are also Sevilla and Bilbao. Mr. Kiroga presented the traditional cuisine of Spain, particularly the traditional Spanish dishes and drinks for certain regions, such as Valencia, which is well known with Paelja, or the tomato soup from the region of Andalusia. Within the famous tourist events in Spain, Mr. Kiroga mentioned the Bullfighting festivals, the carnival held in the Canary Islands and the festival in Seville.

    The students of our University very satisfied from the whole presentation of H.E. Mr. Fernando De Galainena, Mrs.Martin and Mr Kiroga, at the end of their lectures showed interest for further discussion and questions related to touristic opportunities in Madrid and in Spain in general.
