GUEST LECTURE AT UTMS HELD BY MRS. SUZANA ARSOVA - KOSTADINOVA, MA

    On March 22th 2013, within the program of the University of Tourism and Management Skopje, for inviting guest lecturers, in addition of widening the knowledge of our students, as well as, experience in this field, guest lecturer at the Faculty of entrepreneurial business at UTMS was Mrs. Suzana Arsova - Kostadinova, MA, Assistant Head of Department for Entrepreneurship at the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Macedonia.

    The opening remarks at this occasion were held by Prof. Ljubisa Nikolovski, PhD. The significant importance of this lecture, as he said, is the special contribution and information in this field especially on the students of the Faculty of entrepreneurial business, but also for all other students from the different faculties within the University.

    The lecture started with the presentation and introduction regarding the process of support program for development the entrepreneurship and competitiveness of small and medium enterprises, by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Macedonia. This program has been implemented by ME for several years. Mrs. Suzana Arsova - Kostadinova, had presentation on the main activities of this institution. She presented information’s and databases related with the numerous small and medium enterprises in the Republic of Macedonia, which are identified as a pillar for the development of all economies, even among EU countries.

    Statistical data for the period from 2008 to 2011 show’s an increase trend over the past year’s in the number of small businesses who have reached 99% of market share, while the larger enterprises share approximately around 1%. Mrs. Suzana Arsova - Kostadinova also pointed out that 75% -78% of the total workforce from the population in Macedonia are employed in the sector of small and medium enterprises. From this point, our economy is oriented to make strategic development such as, support of this sector, because it has a power as a determinate variable for further national economy development.

    That’s why the national plan for economy for 2013 is focused on integrated program for the development of small and medium enterprises in the field of competition, innovation and entrepreneurship. This program contains measures that have already been realized, as well as information on the criteria and requirements for the eligible businesses, especially on the questions such as, how to apply and to get support from the official state bodies. In addition, Mrs. Arsova-Kostadinova stressed the promotion of Business Angels as an alternative form of financing small and medium enterprises.

    After her lecture and the closing remarks, the students had an opportunity for discussions and questions related to this and similar issues in this field. The questions were focused on the process of increasing the budget for the small and medium enterprises, the role of business angels, but most interest questions were related to the women entrepreneurs who have shown great interest in recent years towards entrepreneurship in Macedonia. This lecture has very important impact on the students from the Faculty of entrepreneurial business, especially, as an opportunity for getting real view on the perspectives, measures, strategies and future projects of the Ministry of Economy in Republic of Macedonia.
